We had struggled with fertility for a very long time. In the span of ten years, and with three different OB/GYN’s, I had five miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy that almost ended my life, we needed to find answers! It wasn’t until mid 2020, during the height of the pandemic that I was able to find the answers we were looking for. After a doctor recommendation and a google search, I happened upon Laurel Fertility Care.
When I called to find out what kind of process, I could be looking at the woman (who was so caring) on the other end of the phone line was able to break down the process, so easily. I ended that conversation knowing a game plan. The first appointment was over the phone through a video chat, seeing as the pandemic created a “new normal.”
After finding out my history, Dr. Smikle wanted to start with lab work. Once, the results of all the blood work came in, it was time to meet Dr. Smikle in person. I was so excited to finally meet him face to face. Our first physical appointment was to go over the blood work and also do an ultrasound.
Within a matter of moments, Dr. Smikle was able to detect an anomaly and recommended a hysteroscopy shortly after. He gave me possibility and hope after so many had failed. I had the procedure done in an afternoon during the first week of November 2020.
Dr. Smikle had found what 3 other doctors had missed in less than 30 minutes. I had a septate uterus and there was no room for an embryo to implant so it would only pass through. The feelings of relief, joy and excitement was insurmountable. To my surprise the doctor almost immediately gave me the green light to try and conceive, and wouldn’t you know, on December 8th I had missed my period and I was pregnant.
Of course, I didn’t find out I was pregnant until the beginning of January and after a couple more blood tests and an ultrasound, Dr. Smikle gave me the greatest gift he could ever give; it was the gift of my little baby girl’s heartbeat. That moment will forever be etched in my soul.
Dr. Smikle played a pivotal role creating the possibility for my daughter to exist. Words cannot express my admiration for him and the whole staff at Laurel Fertility Care. They gave me the gift I never thought I would have, the gift of Clover.
Here I am now 2 ½ years after I first contacted Laurel Fertility Care, marveling at how much my life has changed, all because of one simple phone call.
