Fertility for trans
and nonbinary patients
Your gender identity should never stand in the way of building a family. We offer compassionate, affirming fertility care tailored to the unique needs of trans and nonbinary individuals—supporting you with respect, expertise, and options that honor your journey.
Understanding your options
Each journey is different. Whether you are pursuing parenthood now or thinking ahead for the future, we’ll meet you where you are and talk through all your options, including:
Egg or sperm preservation: If you’re considering hormone therapy or surgery, preserving eggs or sperm beforehand gives you the option of biological parenthood later.
Hormone therapy + fertility: Hormones can affect fertility, but in many cases, reproductive function can return with time.
For trans women, sperm production may resume 3–6 months after stopping estrogen and anti-androgens.
For trans men, ovulation can return 3–6 months after stopping testosterone, though cycles may vary and additional treatment may be needed.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): IVF allows for the fertilization of eggs outside the body and is often used with stored gametes, donor sperm/eggs, or a gestational carrier.
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET): FET involves transferring a previously frozen embryo into the uterus. This option is ideal for those using stored embryos or expanding their families later in life.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): IUI is a less invasive and often more affordable option using donor sperm. It can be a great fit for those who want to conceive without IVF.

Thinking about fertility before starting hormones
or surgery?
If you’re planning gender-affirming hormone therapy or surgery, now may be the right time to explore fertility preservation. These steps don’t mean you have to start treatment right away—but they do give you more options for the future.
We can help you understand:
What to expect during egg or sperm retrieval
How long preservation lasts (10+ years with cryostorage)
What it’s like to pause hormones temporarily (if needed)
What options exist for future pregnancy or partnership planning
